New World Paints Limited started operations in Jamaica as a locally owned paint company.

Lewis Berger Great Britain Limited, acquired majority share holding in New World Paints, thereby changing the Company’s name to Lewis Berger West Indies Limited.
The Company established the first Resin Plant in the English speaking Caribbean. A development laboratory was built to conduct paint research and development to tropical specifications. It was out of that laboratory that market leaders such as Berger 303 Flat Emulsion, 404 Gloss Oil, Everglow Low Sheen Emulsion and the economically priced Magicote Flat Emulsion- to name a few – emerged.

The Company changed its name to Berger Paints Jamaica Limited.

Berger Paints Jamaica became a publicly listed Company on the Jamaica Stock.

Berger Paints Jamaica Limited achieved certification from Underwriters Management Systems Inc. (UL), U.S.A. to the International Organization for Standardization ISO 9002:1994.

Berger Paints Jamaica introduced a new tinting system offering over 3,500 Colours
Berger Jamaica received the ISO 9001:2000 (Quality Management System) certification from Underwriters Management Systems Inc. (UL), the first paint Company in Jamaica and the English-speaking Caribbean.

Berger Paints Jamaica celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Berger Paints Jamaica was awarded the National Quality Award for Customer Focus from the Jamaica Bureau of Standards

Berger won the National Quality Award Prize for excellence in Business Results from the Jamaica Bureau of Standards

Attained the ISO 14001:2004 (Environmental Management System) certification from Underwriters Management Systems Inc. (UL), U.S.A.
Awarded the Best Environmental Management Programme by the Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association (J.M.A.).
