Berger 404 Semi-Gloss Enamel

A moisture and mildew resistant, semi-gloss enamel with good resistance to moisture and mildew.

Berger 404 Semi-Gloss Enamel is a tough, traditional, oil based interior semi-gloss enamel. Specially formulated to provide a hard-wearing, washable and stain-resistant coating, with an easy application by brush, roller or spray. Berger 404 Semi-Gloss Enamel provides excellent flow and a long wet edge time. In addition it has good resistance to fungus, mildew and algae.

Surface preparation:

  • Remove grease, dirt and oil
  • Rinse surface and allow to dry
  • Rinse with clean water to remove any acid and alkali contamination
  • Remove efflorescence or mould from surface
  • Remove rust, mill-scale, oxide deposits, or flaking paint on metal surfaces before applying appropriate primer

Application Procedure:

  • Interior / Exterior, New Woodwork and Metal
  • Before applying Berger 404 S.G. Enamel use appropriate primers as follows:
  • Prime wood with Berger Wood Primer
  • Prime metal and steel with Zinc Chromate
  • Primer Aluminium and Zinc with Berger Universal Primer or Zinc Chromate Yellow
  • Prime concrete with Berger Alkali Sealer

Tips:  As a hard wearing enamel Berger 404 Semi-Gloss Enamel is great on doors, furniture, cupboards, arm rails and timber trim.

Solve Potential Paint Problems

The easy wearing away of paint when scrubbed with a brush, sponge, or cloth is indicative of a paint which is exhibiting poor scrub resistance.

What are the possible causes?

  • Insufficient time allowed for paint to fully dry before washing or scrubbing
  • Use of an abrasive cleaner
  • Choosing the wrong product or sheen for the area
  • Using low quality paint
  • Overly aggressively scrubbing the painted area

What is the solution?

  • Areas requiring frequent washing will require a high quality paint formulated especially to provide such performance
  • High traffic areas may require a silk, semi-gloss or gloss rather than a flat paint
  • Allow adequate dry time, as scrub resistance will not fully develop until the paint has thoroughly cured. Typically, 5 days
  • Use non-abrasive material and mild detergent where possible
