Finishes –
Flat

Surface preparation:

  • Wood – Rub down all knots and resinous pockets. Treat with Berger Knotting Varnish.
  • Iron & Steel – For severe marine exposure, sandblast. For normal exposure, hand or power tool clean.
  • Aluminium & Zinc – Remove grease with detergent or BERGER #3 Reducer. Roughen surface with Berger Self Etch Primer.

Application Procedure:

  • Brush, roller or spray application, thin 10% with Berger No. 2 Reducer for spray application
  • Berger 404 is self-priming and can be applied to bare wood
  • Apply to primed metal
  • Allow to dry completely before applying subsequent coats
  • Touch dry: 3 hours. Re-coating time 12 hrs. Hard-dry: 24 hrs
  • Berger recommends using grey primer for dark paint colours and white primer for brighter and lighter paint colours

Tips:

Paints will not adhere properly to dirty surfaces. To get maximum performance ensure that the surface is clean and dry before you apply any paint.
